Songbird drops Linux support. Did they just lose all their helpful user base?

Yesterday the Songbird Dev’s announced that they will no longer be developing Songbird for Linux.  Not being heavy on music being played from my dusty iPod, I’ve never really explored Songbird much.  I did know that it was very popular as the go to software as an iTunes replacement in the Linux world.  You can also tell that from most of the comments in their blog posting most others felt the same way.

I think we’re all wondering, “Why did they stop developing for Linux but Kept Mac support?”.  Why continue to develop a iTunes replacement on the two operating systems that run iTunes natively?

My guess is that if you are going to buy a Mac, you’re going to use iTunes and nothing else.  You just spent a couple extra thousand more for that Genius bar support, so why would you throw that way for Songbird?  Granted this doesn’t apply to all, but I would guess most.

Windows, windows, windows.

Apache+suEXEC+FastCGI+PHP-FPM+APC - Part 1

This part 1 is going to focus on the Slackware side of things in order to prep your server to use all of the above.  If you are not running Slackware, don’t nessessarily skip this section, as the configure options for compiling everything are still very important and apply to any distro.  If you already have everything recompiled, installed, etc. I would skim this to make sure (if you were recompiled before seeing this) that you used the options I did or at least are familiar with them so that when I reference them later you can apply them to your setup if you choose different options at compile time.  (Wow, that was a mouth full..(that’s what she said..))  Ha ha ha.

Before we start, lets do a benchmark of our current configuration of apache with php.  Be sure to save the output to comepare it with the end results at the end of Part 2.

Parody - Cisco CRS-3

Some friends and I saw the original video (link in the video) for the new crs-3 and there was one part in particular that just didn’t fit.  Overall the video was just kind of fluffy and so I took it upon myself to speak the truth through the video.  If AT&T are using these, well they there’s no freaking excuse for how shitty their 3G service is and has been lately.  Especially for those in New York.

For those wondering what I used to make the video, I used Openshot.  This is one awesome program, and if you are a Linux user and want a easy video authoring tool, I highly recommend it!

Enjoy, and tell me what you think! :D

mlt and openshot slackbuild updates

Thanks to Dominic for emailing me about the and build issues.  I’ve corrected the problems and submitted the updates to slackbuilds.org.

In the mean time you can grab the builds from my site.  I’ve also added two queue files that you can download to make the whole process easier.  I suggest checking out, http://www.sbopkg.org/queues.php and http://www.sbopkg.org/queues/13.0/ (hint, queue lives there).
