Wyeast – Irish Ale Yeast #1084

Striked this mash at 75C.  Went to check temperature several times and noticed the water level had dropped and there wasn’t water covering the top of the grains.  Filled it up with 70C water each time, but struggled to keep the water up top.  I think i had too many grains in the new masher because there was a point where if i filled it anymore i couldn’t put the lid on.  I don’t think i can put anymore than 12lbs of grain in the coolers.  I’ll need to experiment to find out.  I will probably brew again this Sunday.

Sparged at 70C.  I think i ended up with a bit more water than i wanted.  I thought i would have boiled off more.  Ended up with a 6gal batch instead of a 5gal.

Had some trouble with it kicking off after i pitched the yeast too.  After 10 hours I didn’t see any activity, i pitched more in some more yeast and also threw in some yeast energizer.  This morning it finally starting taking off.  I’m guessing that because it was a 6gal batch, I might have not originally pitched enough yeast to start with.

  • Yo,
Like what you’ve done with the site! Very nice sidebar, looks familiar…

I’m a beer connoisseur, and would like to sample your wares if possible.. Where are you located? I’m in Maryland, but wouldn’t mind driving a little. If there’s some beer you want, maybe we could work a trade. I have access to a LOT of stuff here. Cheers!

Hey, figured how to approve your comment… In a around about way. Appears others have been having the same problem. If you edit the comment and approve it from there, walla it works!

So this is more of a test but if it works… let me know if you don’t mind. :)
This beer is done btw, and it’s nice and stouty! Probably one of my best beers. The other two that i did before this one turned out pretty well though. I’m actually stoaked to try my Red IPA. Just need to buy more bottles because i have over 6 cases of beer.. hahaha!

And happy news, I fixed my site woes. \0/
